Cody earned his degree in Business & Marketing with a concentration in Golf Management from Ferris State University — home to one of the most respected PGA Professional Golf Management programs in the nation.

He went on to become one of Marriott's youngest head golf professionals in the country, a distinction that speaks to both his skill and his ability to lead at the highest level.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Cody's approach starts where every great swing begins — the fundamentals. Posture, grip, and stance are the foundation everything else is built on. From there, no two lessons look the same. Every golfer moves differently, and Cody builds a personalized plan around how you move — not a generic template pulled from a YouTube video. There's no substitute for real instruction from someone standing right next to you.

  • Starting from scratch is Cody's favorite place to begin. There's no bad habit to undo, no ingrained swing to rebuild. Just a clean foundation to build on. Cody's straightforward approach makes the fundamentals accessible and the learning curve a lot less steep than you'd expect.

  • Golf has historically been a men's game, but that's changing fast and Cody's teaching reflects that. He works with women at every level, from first-timers to seasoned players, with instruction that's patient, clear, and focused on results rather than assumptions about ability.

  • Cody works with juniors as young as eight, building the fundamentals, confidence, and love of the game that last a lifetime. Lessons are age-appropriate, engaging, and designed to make golf feel like something they want to come back to.

  • Golf is one of the few sports that rewards a lifetime of experience, and Cody's instruction is built around making sure you keep playing your best. He works with senior players of all skill levels, adapting every lesson to your game and your goals. Several of his students are in their 80s and still improving.

Poor weight transfer is the root of a lot of bad shots. This step drill fixes it. Feet together, swing to the top, step into it, then swing through. The step makes your body move in the right order without you thinking about it. Do it slow a few times and let your body feel the timing. Tired of missing putts? Here’s a great drill to help you: Two tees. One gate. Zero room for a sloppy stroke. Set them just wider than the golf ball and roll putts through the gate. Clip a tee and you know your face was open or your path was off. Roll it clean and you’ve got a square, on-line stroke. This drill doesn’t lie.
